Understanding the Procedure |

Porcelain veneers are thin, yet durable shells of
porcelain that are bonded onto the front surfaces of your teeth to improve their
shape, length, spacing, and color. Your porcelain veneer procedure will begin
with an in-depth consultation and comprehensive evaluation with Dr. Christ. This
appointment will be used to assess the benefits of veneers in comparison to the
benefits of more invasive procedures such as
dental crowns to
determine which is right for you. Veneers are individualized to fit each
patient's needs and are custom-crafted by a dental laboratory that we've worked
with for almost 30 years.
Once your treatment plan is organized and the
laboratory sends your porcelain veneers back to our Tarpon Springs office, we
will prepare your teeth for their placement. We will remove a small layer of
enamel to make room for the veneers, and your teeth will be cleaned, polished,
and gently buffed to optimize the bond. Finally, your veneers will be
permanently cemented on, resulting in a newly remade smile.
Although these thin pieces of porcelain are
surprisingly resistant to everyday wear and tear, it is important to avoid
chewing on hard objects such as your fingernails, pen caps, and ice cubes, to
keep them from cracking or breaking.
At-home hygiene and routine cleanings will keep your
porcelain veneers looking new. Brushing and flossing at least twice a day and
visiting our office every six months for a checkup will make your porcelain
veneers last longer.
